Previously, university was only for the really bright. Therefore, it was impossible for someone whose grades in elementary school were already worse than an A and a few Bs to get into college. High school grades were taken into account in the college admissions process. While this method certainly selected the best and brightest, it was unfair in that, for example, if a student wanted to apply to law school, a poor grade in science, his or her weakest subject, would ruin his or her plans.Around the 1990s, college graduateism began to spread in this country.
Many parents longed to have a college student at home, and this desire went so far that they subordinated everything to it and could not even think about their own children going to, say, a teaching college. The result is that there are many universities that produce hundreds or thousands of graduates each year but are of little use in everyday life. In fact, in many of these cases, the grades of those who applied to the university were really bad. Before, they would not have been admitted, but now they can graduate without any problems. There are more than enough problems in Czech education.
The big problem is the lack of capacity in kindergartens, and there are hardly any nursery schools or playgroups. Even if a town had a children\’s group, most parents cannot afford to send their children to such facilities. The state will never support playgroups or preschools. The quality of education in elementary schools is also declining because they are taught by graduates of education departments who went there to study education only because they get a relatively decent salary and two months\‘ vacation. So far, no one seems to be trying to solve this problem, so the level of education in the Czech Republic will continue to decline.
