It is not possible to see all the interesting sights of the Highlands in a single day, but here are a few highlights. You can start your journey in the town of Trebic, located in the southeastern part of the Highlands. Trebic has the largest square in Bohemia and a castle built in a converted Benedictine monastery, which is now part of the Highland Museum. Next to the castle is the majestic Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral of St. Procopius, which should not be missed. Be sure to visit the Jewish Quarter on the banks of the Jihlava River, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A few kilometers from Trebic in the direction of Znojmo is the beautiful baroque castle built by the German Kestenberg family in Jaroměřice nad Lokitnu. Jan Adam Kestenberg, the last of this family, contributed to the rich musical and cultural life of the area. He also rebuilt St. Margaret\’s Church in 1737, with a Baroque fresco on the dome by Karel Franciszek Tepper. The famous poet Otokar Břežina also worked in Jaroměřice, and his work is on display in the local museum near the cemetery. The title of his work is “The Pain of the Poet and His Sister.”
In addition, the famous film “Postdzhijni” was filmed at the Dalecice Brewery, 17 km away. Here, visitors can book a tour of the brewery and sit in the courtyard under the legendary chimney or in the stylish beer hall where movie props and advertising signs are on display. Dalecice is also known for its dam on the Jihlava River, which has seen a boom in recreational boating in recent years. Visocina is also popular with cyclists because of its well-maintained bike paths, and there are numerous classic bike rental stores. There are also interesting places
that can be visited by bicycle.
